Sunday 8th August 2010 - Newlands Corner, Surrey
For our August walk, we assembled in the carpark at Newlands Corner, Surrey and despite the lure of the tea shop were ready to depart at around 10am.

After a surprisingly gentle start to the walk we soon got down to business and began following the route of maximum ascent and descent, climbing St Martha's Hill for the first time this walk.

A well deserved rest

In the beautiful summer sunshine, we then navigated a large circle bringing us back around to St Martha's Church for lunch, encountering some fairly exotic looking wildlife en-route.

Some local wildlife

More local wildlife!

After lunch, we followed a series of gentle descents that set us up for the final hill of our group training. Now fighting fit, the group ascended this mere trifle without pause and were soon discussing the upcoming adventure over post-walk refreshments.

Trying out the summit banner

Alan's summit banner was given its first public airing - hopefully the next photos of this will have a more dramatic back-drop!
